GIRL TALK: A Pixie Cut with No Relaxer Why did I cut my hair?

I'm not going to lie,  I was just as shocked at me cutting all of my hair off  like the rest of you!  For about 8 years now I have been growing out my hair since my last relaxer and pixie cut.   I was always in love with the idea of having short hair again after growing it out in 2010 when I stopped getting relaxers but just didn't know it was quite possible to do so.   Surprisingly this hair cut and style has been by far the easiest style that I have had to deal with in YEARS! And I am even talking about easier than dealing with my wigs y'all.

so what made me do it?

Honestly me cutting my hair was a result of deciding many changes in my life.  Yeah I get it, it sounds like I'm being extra deep for no apparent reason right? Who knows, maybe I am but I know it's working for me so far.  Last year was a pretty tough year that resulted in me making a lot of drastic changes in my life and with those changes it made me challenge myself  to change more for the better.  My hair already had some heat damage and no matter how many "Diva Cut Like" haircuts I gave myself, I was never please with it in its natural state besides a high puff.  Yeah the high puff was cool and all until you start getting breakage from constantly having your hair pulled up.

straight vs. natural

My go to hairstyle  in it's natural state.

PROS

- Easy to manage

- Great way to show off curl pattern and lasts for days

-Best for summer styling

CONS

-Can cause tension on your hair from pulling up for long periods of times whether you use an elastic band or the  bands thAT WRAP AROUND

my go to hair straightened

PROS

-theeemmm inchhesss boyyy! I just enjoyed seeing my hangtime after being couped up in my wigs

- unlimited hair flips

-perm rod sets

CONS

- using heat

-the upkeep of keeping it straight ans styled to your liking

Wearing my my hair straight required a lot of deep conditioning, blow drying, and the straightening, styling etc. .....sounding overwhelmed yet?  Well I was. The upkeep of everything was getting to be too much.  Even when I wore it in protective styles like my wigs it was too much.  I would neglect my natural hair and become lazy at weekly deep conditons because you're taking care of not just your hair but all them inches from your wig too.  Sooooooo long story short I'm lazy with my hair! Yeah I said it.  I pick and choose my battles wisely you guys.  I don't mind spending 45 minutes to an hour on my makeup when it requires more detail, but not my hair too.  heat damaged, partially chemically damaged from some bleached highlights from 3 years ago and I was ready to start over.

I saw a lot of women doing the Big Chop all over again and at this point I was willing to risk it all and start all over. My hair was already 3 different textures, heat damaged, partially chemically damaged from some bleached highlights from 3 years ago and I was ready to start over.

After days and days if contemplating and accepting reality that I was chopping all of my hair off, I had finally got the balls to do it myself.  I had to man.   I am a licensed hairstylist so I know how to cut my own hair which makes me cheap and I will never pay anyone for something I can do myself and lastly  not taking that L if somebody jacked my hair up.  So I looked up some pictures for inspiration on Pinterest and I did it!  It actually turned out better than I initially planned.  I had said a real long prayer to God that I didn't mess my hair up because that would have been a horror story if not lol!!!

on a deeper level...

Yeah I wanted to cut my for stylish and preference reasons, but I also did it to challenge myself  to take a risk and letting go.  I'm sure we all have heard that term "A woman who cuts her hair is about to change her life."  Of course I was inspired by that quote alone because I am in a place where I am growing and changing and ready for all things new and ready to receive new blessings and promises.

So with that being said, I wanted to change any and everything that I could walking into the New Year and a new season of my life and that included my hair. I wanted a fresh start with my hair just like I wanted a new fresh start in life and I knew that by cutting off all of my hair was uncomfortable and risky.  I was completely out of my comfort zone doing something that I had no idea knowing what I was walking into and what the outcome was going to be.

I was taking a leap of faith the same way I wanted to step out of my comfort zone in my personal life for growth and change.  To challenge myself to be a better person and to let go of all bad things and dead weight holding me back to be a better me. So in my personal life I decided to do the same and cut off anything and everybody that wasn't good for me.  Maaaaannnnnn I cut so many bad habits and useless people in my life off like I was Edward Scissor Hands and it felt great!!!! lol.

Just like my hair is super low maintenance so is my life.  I don't have time dealing with anything that doesn't make me happy or that is going to cause me more stress.

as a result...

My natural curls are pohhhhhhhhppppinnnn now!!!! Yes I use heat on my hair now a little more, but there are ways around it with some protective styling that I am testing out.  I honestly don't plan on growing my hair back for a while because I am obsessed with this short hair these days, and when I do I'll just cut it all off and start fresh with no heat.

Hopefully soon I’ll have a tutorial on how I style my hair with no relaxer and still managed to keep it sleek and straight.  Well that’s all for this post you guys! See you in the next one!

XOXO,
