Brunch in CLE: Jack Flaps Urban Breakfast Shoppe

JACK FLAPS BREAKFAST IN CLEVELAND

This was a place that has been on my radar for breakfast and brunch places to eat here in Cleveland.  The pictures of the food never failed to make my mouth water and I've been in a mood to try new things and places.  We arrived not to far after the first morning rush after the shoppe opening a little before 11 am on a Saturday.  There was a huge line ahead of us with not much waiting space and not one server in sight to seat us.  I was almost ready to head out until my husband insisted we stay and give it a try.

We waited for about an hour and then got seated.  It seems as if they caught an unexpected morning rush during one of the chef's breaks which is why there was such a hold up.  It's all good because we were in no rush, it was a beautiful Saturday morning, and if it was this packed this is where we needed to be.

Milk N' Cookies Waffle

Cookie Crisp cereal, Whipped Cream, and Milk Syrup

This waffle was actually a choice of me being spontaneous and stepping out of my comfort zone. I usually wouldn't choose something with these toppings, but it literally was calling my name.  After taking my first bite, the tenderness of the waffle literally just melted in my mouth.  The edges of them had a slight crisp, but nothing too crunchy that would take your thoughts off the texture of it.

The warmth of the waffle slowly melts the chunks of chocolate so bite by bite you're getting small chunks, along with ooey gooey melted pieces.  Here's where it gets weird though, the milk syrup was just "mehhhh." It honestly wasn't the taste that was the issue, it was just runny as all hell! It actually tasted great and gave you ultimate milk and cookies feel in a waffle form.  The problem was that the more milk syrup you added, the more of a liquid mess you had on your plate trying to cut into your waffle.

If the syrup consistency was just a tad bit thicker and not so runny, it would have literally been perfect.

Creole Shrimp & Grits

Now this meal belonged to my husband.  Anything Creole and he's all in like the damn Cavs in the Finals.  I had one bite and it was just cool.  Don't take my opinion on it though because I'm not a grits specialist.

From the words of my husband, the grits were cooked to perfection with no lumps.  The tomatoes were nice and sweet holding great flavor for the sauce and the celery was the core of all of the flavor.  The overall dish was nice and creamy and says he would for sure go back and purchase the dish again.

Overall it was good and we look forward to going back...during a weekday lol.
