I may rock a faded haircut now days, but I will never forget the days of trying to keep up with managing my natural hair. During the warmer months it just gets frizzy if it’s not in its naturally curly state and protective styles are my typical go-to, so I rounded up a list of all of my favorite styles that stayed on repeat.

The Infamous Top Knot Bun

This was literally my go to style if my hair was due for a wash and I wanted nothing to do with it. It also gave my a booommbb face life, you see those cheek bones hunty?? But the gag was, you always add in braiding hair for your bun an cover your natural hair for protection. The fun part is that if you wrap it good and night and just refresh your edges and any frizzy’s in the am and you would be good as new.

I would take breaks in between this style to prevent breakage, but at least one week out of the month, I would rock this style.

The Halo Braid

The Halo braid was one of the very last styles I rocked with heavy while having medium length hair before chopping it all off. I had never really tried it before, but it was literally an amazing style to have because it was cute and completely out of my face, which is why Spring and Summer months are great times to rock this style as well.

Natural Curls with Curly Clip In’s

You would never believe that my hair was maybe 3.5 inches long in this picture. These Knatural Kurly Clip Ins from KRS Hair Group are hands down some of the best natural hair clip ins I have to say is on the market. Her textures are consistent with matching our beautiful tresses to perfection. People literally thought all of this was my hair! It blended with my hair texture and curl pattern perfectly.

I would braid the back half of my hair and just clip the clip ins right on top of the braids. The front half would be left out and just blended in with the hair and it was as simple as that!

Goddess Boho Faux Locs

I fell in love with this style when initially trying it, I was soooooooo scared because I didn’t think it would fit on me. Boy was I wrong! This style was everything! I had did it right before I had took a trip to Mexico and ya’ll it was just a whole vibe. It was pretty time consuming, but the results were totally worth it.

Medium Box Braids

I mean, do we even have to deep dive into box braids!? They are always my first go to when I think of protective styles, but the medium sized ones are the ones that work best for me. I just love rocking a half up half down look with them.

Dry Flexi Rod Set

I don’t know about your hair, but silk press doesn’t exist in my world when it’s warm outside. But that doesn’t mean you can’t still have fun while embracing the frizz. I would blow my hair out so that it was fully stretched and that I could enjoy my hair length, then I would use a small amount of foaming wrap to set with for the flexi rods. Section out your hair and how you want your curls to fall and take them out in the am.

You’ll end up with something a little like this. You see my hair looks super full because when the humidity hits, the combo of the curls and frizz play in my favor. Who says you can’t have your cake and eat it too!?

Dry Bombshell Perm Rod Set

Listen Linda, whenever I rocked my natural hair with a perm rod set, YOU COULDN’T TELL ME NOTHING! With this style I would blow out and run the flat iron my hair to mid shaft and just to get my roots. Doing this gives my hair the illusion that it’s fully pressed, but that’s when the perm rods come in. As mentioned in the style above, my hair gets frizzy in the warmer months, so when wearing my natural hair I would use the good and bad all to my advantage to keep the style as protective as possible. So I would use the pink and orange colored perm rods (perfect for medium length hair. Go up sizes if hair is longer), section my hair and switch between sizes to play with how my hair fell.

All I would use on my hair was a light leave in and some hair serum so that my hair was full of life and bouncy. Where ever I wanted more volume, I would add the larger perm rods. Where ever I wanted a more defined curl, I would place the smaller pink rod. The result would be this big beautiful bombshell look while my hair is just bouncy and blowing in the wind while avoiding all of the heat damage!

Pinned Curls from Perm Rod or Flexi Set

Old flexi rod or perm rod set? No problem. Sometimes our natural hair can be a headache to deal with on wash days, I mean we love it, but damn that sh*t just takes long lol. So preserve those older styles for a few more days and pin it into a style of your choice. Pinning my hair up has always worked best for me personally. If the hair if a little old and oily and you could use a little freshness to bring some bounce back to your curl, section the hair and add a little dry shampoo and watch your hair come alive again.
