Dupe Designer Fragrances That Are Actually Worth Giving a Try!

If you follow me on my social media, you know that I recently posted about some fragrance dupes that I have been super excited to get my hands on and try. I wanted to give it some time to test them out before making a post about it here on the blog, but let’s just say I am ready to spill the tea on them!

I am talking about Dossier Perfumes. They are a fragrance company based in Grasse France (the perfume capital of the world) that creates CLEAN ingredients for dupe luxury fragrances. I was super skeptical when I came across their page, but over time I became really intrigued to try them out.

No, they are not paying me to make this post, but they did send me these fragrances to try to give an honest review. Y’all know I love trying new stuff to always recommend to my fellow product junkies, and as always I’m going to keep it 100% honest!!!

I chose to try the YSL Black Opium dupe (Oriental 1) and my ultimate favorite signature scent of all time, the Chanel Chance dupe (Oriental Woody 3).

Let me just say I was defiantly impressed! Usually dupes smell kind of close, but be a little off ya know? I knew if I got a fragrance that I can know the exact scent with my eyes closed that I could really test what I am working with. The main things I chose to talk about are price, quality, longevity and overall comparison to the original fragrance.

Price

BIHHHHHH!!!!! These bad boys go for $29!!!!!!! A small bottle of Chanel Chance is at least going to hit Your pockets for $75, so that alone is a steal! In a recent email I received, they will be increasing the prices by $10 making their fragrances $39 each, but I mean that is still a complete bargain versus what you will be paying retail prices for any other luxury brand.

Free of All of the Harsh Chemicals

It wasn’t until I was pregnant with my daughter that I learned the harsh side effects of parabens and phthalates. I was literally shook learning the harm to my baby’s growth it had while she was still cooking in my belly. It made me think, if this does this to her, what the hell is it doing to me!?

Now I have tried a few clean fragrances that are on the market since my pregnancy, and I must say I was rather bored with them. The scent selection was basic and the brands didn’t really carry any scents that I would personally wear as an everyday fragrance. Even after giving them a try just to be open minded and try something new, they didn’t last long or linger on my skin.

Besides the harsh chemicals, it’s also exciting to know that the natural perfume oils have no additional colorants added.

Simplistic But Detailed Labeling

One think that annoys me when brands re-create fragrances to be exact dupes is the corny knock off bottles and names. It’s to me, well a complete turn off. I can honestly say that Dossier kept it simple and modern with the packaging, but also detailed and informative. Majority of the world are unfamiliar with what all fragrance notes are in their perfumes, so with this packaging it allows people to start to educate themselves on what it is they actually like as their scents.

I can’t begin to tell you how many times working with clients to help them find fragrances while shopping and asking, “So what notes do you enjoy in your fragrance?” and they just look at me with the biggest question mark on their faces. Yes, these are dupes, but with knowledge of sharing this information on the packaging as well as sending it in their order helps the customer further know what to shop for with future purchases.

The Option to Sample Before Committing

Being the fact that Dossier is an online based company, you don’t have the the same opportunities as you would in a storefront to sample their versions of the dupe fragrances. I enjoy the clever way the brand sends you a sample bottle (same as you would in a storefront) with enough fragrance to wear at least 3-5 times to truly test if the scent works for you before committing to the bottle purchased.

I LOVE THIS! As a person who has worked in sales retail, and as a consumer I love and respect this process from an online store. As someone who has worked in sales this is amazing because the product isn’t used and damaged out because someone has used majority of the bottle and then 3 months later returns it to say it doesn’t work for them. As a consumer I enjoy this because if it doesn’t work on my body chemistry I can send it back and exchange for another fragrance without the hassle of being told the product was used so I’m pretty much SOL with my purchase.

It’s an overall win-win for the business of the brand and the purchase of the customer so that everyone is happy.

So How Similar Are the Dupes to the Originals?

Pretty damn identical. I’ve been wearing Chanel Chance (Oriental Woody 3) since I was 14 years old, so I know the scent and notes with my eyes closed. I can’t honestly say that it’s the perfect dupe! It has a bit more citrus notes than the original to my preference, but nothing drastic where it would turn me off or feel like it’s completely different. It does last, however I wish it lasted just a tad bit longer.

Typically Eau de Parfumes (higher concentration of perfume oil and less dilution) give you anywhere between 6-8 hours of longevity of your fragrance. I would honestly say that these scents easily give you a good 4 hours of me even being able to smell the scents on myself. This means that the concentration is about exact to a Eau de Toilette (less perfume oil with a bit more dilution).

The two fragrances I chose to try had oil concentrations of 15-18% which would make them equivalent to an Eau de toilette which would explain the longevity of 4 hours when I wear outside. However, when I sprayed Oriental 1 fresh out the shower to wear overnight, I woke up smelling like I freshly sprayed the scent on my skin. My t-shirt even smelled fresh of the scent as well.

Made in Grasse France, the Fragrance Capital of the World

Grasse, France is known to be the home of the fragrance capital of the world since the 18th century. Provence town is the home of the May Rose, which is the iconic flower used in Chanel No. 5.
Also home of other luxury designer houses such as Hermès, Dior, Louis Vuitton and much more. Why does this matter?? Quality. The same quality of flowers and ingredients from these luxury brands and used in Dossier Perfumes without hitting your pockets.

Final Thoughts

Me being the “Frugal Franny” that I am, I can honestly say that Dossier Perfumes are a must try. I didn’t experience that many negatives as I have before with other clean fragrances. In the future I would love to see them “Up” the perfume concentration for a bit more longevity. I know that would result in a price increase, but I mean it still would be cheaper than the originals.
