Homemade Buttermilk Biscuits
Skip the processed gunk at the stores and bless yourself with this buttermilk biscuit recipe! Its super easy and takes just a few ingredients. Baking from scratch is a lot less tedious than you may think.
Watch my video on this recipe here.
I love using this recipe to make some biscuits with sausage gravy, but all of the extras I love making either chicken biscuits or sausage biscuits with. My family LOVES when biscuits are on the menu because it just gives a homestyle feel like you’re at grandma’s house.
Biscuit Recipe
Biscuit Recipe:
•4 cups All-Purpose flour
•1 tsp salt
•1 tbsp baking powder
•2 tsp baking soda
•3/4 cup butter, chilled & unsalted
•1 3/4 cup buttermilk
•1 egg and a splash of buttermilk for egg wash
I learned that shredding your butter instead of cutting it into cubes makes this recipe a lot easier!
Directions:
Measure out all of your dry ingredients and then add cold shredded or cubed butter. Its best to grab some gloves and crumble your butter and dry mixture together a little bit, and then slowly add in your buttermilk.
Once everything is all blended, your dough should look like this. Next you want to make sure when you roll your dough, that you fold it a few times to create flaky layers to your biscuit.
Fold and roll your dough about a good 5x before cutting out your biscuits. Check out my video linked above for visual reference.
Grab a glass to cut out the perfectly sized biscuits.
After you cut them out add them to a pan, I personally love baking my biscuits in a cast iron skillet. I just feel like they cook and taste better. Combine an egg and a splash of buttermilk as your egg wash and splash them on top of your biscuits before baking.
Bake in the oven on 450 degrees for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
For a little razzle dazzle I like to melt some butter and honey together and drizzle it on top of the biscuits.
And just like that, you have some fluffy and flaky buttery homemade buttermilk biscuits! Would you give this recipe a try??
